A unique experience blending tradition and modernity
A unique experience blending tradition and modernity in the heart of the Parma Apennines, in Langhirano (Parma). Inside the stone buildings of the Rocca, in the historic village of Rocca di Valle di Castrignano, we offer stays in charming rooms and apartments skillfully restored using natural materials—ideal for those seeking tranquility, nature, and an authentic connection to the Parmigiano Reggiano Vacche Grigie production chain. It’s a gentle way to experience the Parma region of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, just twenty minutes from the city of Parma, immersed in the landscape of the “Bosso and Sporno Mountains Protected Area,” part of the UNESCO MAB Reserve. All three rooms are housed in one of the buildings of the complex called “Casa Piazza,” named after the last family to live there. It is a three-story house with a balcony, entirely dedicated to hospitality and perfectly preserved. The restoration was carried out in a historically accurate manner using only traditional materials: oak wood, natural lime, and local stone. Particular attention was paid to the lime, as this material was typical of the area and the valley—so much so that the Campelli family produced it from a small quarry in the woods above the houses. After the quarry was rediscovered during the restoration, the lime for the plaster was obtained by mixing local aggregate into the mixture. The resulting stucco and plasterwork thus took on the color of the local earth, lending the project a unique character and creating harmony between architecture, history, and the surrounding landscape.

THE GRANARY
Located on the top floor of one of the buildings in the village known as Casa Piazza, it takes its name from the rooms traditionally used as bedrooms and as storage spaces for grain and wheat. The walls and doors still bear traces of where the sacks were counted and have been preserved along with the entire masonry structure, which is plastered with natural lime, as both a decorative and historical feature. From one of the windows, you can gaze out over the landscape of the Parma Apennines valley. Located on the first floor of one of the buildings in the village known as Casa Piazza, this was the family bedroom, once used by the head of the household and his wife. Often, even young children enjoyed spending the night there with their parents or grandparents. The bedroom window offers a view of the Rocca’s gardens and the surrounding countryside of Langhirano. Located on the ground floor of one of the buildings in the village known as Casa Piazza, this was the cellar where dim light filters in through the north-facing window—as tradition dictated—to ensure that the temperature in this room remained as constant as possible throughout the year: cool in summer and warm in winter. It is the ideal place to rest on hot August nights amid the charming atmosphere of the historic village.
