A unique experience between tradition and modernity

A way to experience the territory of the Appenino Tosco-Emiliano Parmense, twenty minutes from the city of Parma, immersed in the landscape of the ‘Area Tutelata dei monti Bosso e Sporno’, part of the UNESCO MAB RESERVE. All three rooms are housed in one of the buildings in the complex called “Casa Piazza”, named after the last family to inhabit it. It is a perfectly preserved three-storey house with a balcony, entirely dedicated to hospitality. The restoration was carried out in a philological manner using only traditional materials: oak wood, natural lime, and local stone. Particular attention was given to lime as this material was typical of the area and the valley, so much so that the Campelli family produced it with a small quarry in the wood above the houses. Having rediscovered the quarry on the occasion of the restoration, the lime for the plasters was obtained by mixing local inert material into the mixture. The plasterwork and plaster thus obtained took on the colour of the local earth, giving uniqueness to the intervention and harmony between the architecture, history and place.

the granary

THE GRANARY

Located on the top floor of one of the buildings in the borgo called Casa Piazza, it takes its name from the rooms that were traditionally used as sleeping quarters and a place to store grain and wheat. As the matter of fact, the walls and door still bear traces of sack counting and have been preserved along with the entire natural lime-plastered masonry, as a decorative as well as testimonial aspect. From one of the windows it is possible to look out over the valley landscape.
